Are you asking the wrong question? How one simple question can affect your mental health
Studies suggest that the way we ask ourselves questions can have a significant impact on our mental health. If you ask yourself, "are you unhappy?" you're more likely to focus on the negative aspects of your life, which can lead to a downward spiral.
Similarly, asking someone "what's wrong?" can also direct their attention towards the negative. But what if we asked a different question? What if we asked, "what's good?"
By focusing on the good things in our lives, we can retrain our brains to focus on the positive, which can lead to improved mental health and well-being.
Anxiety, in particular, is an emotion that can be amplified by our inner dialogue. If we constantly ask ourselves, "Am I anxious? Am I going to be anxious?" we're priming ourselves for more severe anxiety.
But we don't have to let anxiety define us. By changing the way we think and focusing on what we can control, we can take back control of our lives.
So the next time you're feeling down or anxious, try asking yourself a different question. Focus on the good, and see how it can change your perspective. You have the power to shape your own mental health and well-being.
